Where do you find your inspiration? In fashion magazines, art books, on the street... the sources are endless. With KCWC just around the corner, I thought it would be nice to share one of the blogs I think will be my greatest inspiration for this coming week of sewing.
Meet Groovy Baby and Mama, it's a danish blog filled with the funkiest, coolest, trendiest kids clothes, all made by one super talented mama. There's a button on the side of her blog that says "Mom by day, crafter by night", I think that probably describes her well. She has such an eye for spotting good trends and creating clothing with the sweetest details ever.
One thing Mister M needs is a cool pair of sweatpant and I think I might try a version of these him. I love the idea of the contrasting insert, the neon cord is sweet and so is the fake button closure. I'm not sur Mister M will have as much swag as this kid, but he'll pull it off I'm sure.
How about all the sweet details in these outfits! I say yes to stamping neon hearts on my fabric, I say yes to piping on skirt pockets, I say yes to the cutest peter pan collar ever and why not to funky MC Hammer pants for girls.
This is just a little example of all the great creations you will find on Groovy Baby and Mama, check it out for yourself you might find some sweet details to get you inspired as well.
Maybe this should have been my first blog post for this newly created blog of mine, but really I was so excited to share the news about KCWC! So now I want to share with you a little about me, my motivation and what you can expect to find in this space.
First, Hello! Perhaps you know a little about me already from my design blog Petit a Petit and family, but I thought it would be nice to elaborate a little and talk about the little things that pertain to this blog! My name is Celina, I'm a mom of 2 kiddos, Mister M who will be 5 in November and Miss E, who turned 3 in August. They are my greatest source of inspiration, as I'm sure most children are to their parents. I have a lovely husband, who doesn't always like the mess I create with all my crafts supplies and magazines laying around our small apartement, but who encourages me with every step and crazy projects I decided to start. I now have a full time time job which keeps me busy for most of my day, where I make personalized & embroidered gifts for a small company called A-Z Creations. When I'm not working, I like to spend time with my kids and when they give me a chance, usually at nap or bedtime, is when I like to surf the net, blog, tumble and pin. On the weekends, I try to make more creative things and hopefully I'll have lots of fun projects to share with you on this blog.
How about a background check?
I took my first sewing class when I was 13 and got my first sewing machine at 14, which I used until last year! I made my first upcycled dress when I was 15 and Jean Paul Gaulthier came up with the same design 15 years later! I put together and choreographed my first fashion show at 16 and did many more after that. I had my first retail job at 17 and never really stopped. However, it wasn't until I went to fashion design school (after studying Psychology for 4 years) that I really got the taste, the passion for design and especially for the world of children's design. After completing my degree I worked in the fashion industry designing for both men and woman. In 2004, I went back to school and did a certificate in Graphic Design and then decided to launch my on children's label- Laila b. I created small collections from recycled clothes for little girls, long before the term upcycled even existed. I did it all, from the research of trends, to patterns, to sewing and selling.
My last collection was mainly made from organic cottons and natural fibers, for boys and girls, and was sold at the hippest Montreal boutique Foan. I also owned the coolest boutique in Montreal- MossPink, I carried all the indie designers of the time with labels such as Kico Kids, Lucky Fish, Finger In the Nose, Esthex , just to name a few. I still miss those days, I guess I keep that passion alive talking about all the designers I love on my other blog & now creating on this new blog. With kids comes new responsabilities and I have had to change my priorities a little and one was getting a full time job. It's a good thing I have my blogs they keep me on my toes and help me be even more creative.
So what can you expect to find on this blog?
Some inspiration and mood boards, a little trend analysis, some to do lists and of course tutorials. I'll try to take all of my experience, what's in my head and make sense of it all for you. Nothing too elaborate, as unfortunetly time isn't always on my side! You might discover that my tastes are all over the place, from streamline to over the top, from vintage to trendy, so a little something for everyone and of course always in good taste!!!
I really hope to inspire and guide you a little. If there is anything you'd like me to cover let me know. Oh! I love comments and always respond back, so don't be shy.
